I recently showed you some of the treatments to stay away from and take advantage of when it comes to TMJ-induced jaw pains. Today I want you to learn about treatments for one-sided jaw pain, which can often occur if you’re suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder.
One-sided jaw pain can often be tricky to diagnose at first. You might think you just slept on your pillow wrong or strained one side of your jaw while eating. What many folks don’t realize is that this can be a symptom of TMJ disorder. But before you rush off to various dentists, doctors, and so-called specialists, here are some home remedy treatments that you can start doing today. You’ll start to feel better within a week – I promise.
One-Sided Jaw Pain Treatments
In order to alleviate one-sided jaw pain brought on by TMJ disorder, you simply must change your daily routines. And what better way to start than … when the day starts! That’s why I can’t say enough good things about chugging water the second you wake up. If you can get into the habit of drinking coffee each morning, then I know you can get used to drinking at least 15 ounces of water as the sun rises.
Dehydration causes incredible muscle tension (including in your jaw) so staying properly hydrated in the morning and throughout the day will go a long way towards lessening the tension in your face.
Consume That; Not This
Now that you’re properly hydrated, let’s shift our attention to your diet. Does it currently consist of Taco Bell, candy, and Red Bull? If so then please pay attention for the following three reasons:
- Fast food – Think fast! What are the health benefits of fast food? Yeah, exactly. That’s why it’s critical to replace those McNuggets with foods rich in magnesium. Spinach, artichokes, halibut, and many other tasty foods rich in magnesium will promote muscle relaxation.
- Candy – This is an easy one. If you’re gnawing on a jawbreaker like a 6-year old at a county fair, then that side of your jaw is going to be incredibly sore the next day. Stay away from candy that’s sure to promote one-sided jaw pain.
- You Don’t Need Wings – Sure, drinks like Red Bull can give you that late-afternoon rush that’s sometimes needed to power through the day. But those drinks are saturated with caffeine, a stimulant sure to create muscle tension. Try alternatives like green tea or decaf coffee instead.
You Gotta Get Up To Get Down
You’re probably seeing a common thread regarding one-sided jaw pain treatments. It’s all about relieving tension, which is why home remedies for TMJ are so awesome.
Another treatment I want you to take advantage of is exercising. Nothing relaxes the body more than a good hike, game of tennis, or a DanceDanceRevolution marathon. Whatever inspires you to get off of the couch to get your blood pumping, do it in spades!
